A new way to taste the Hunter Valley

SIP Uncovered: Olympic Stories & Wollombi Wines

On 27 June at 2pm, SIP Wollombi Village is hosting a conversation with two locals whose lives intersected with one of Australia's greatest moments — the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

David Atkins was the Creative Director of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. He's also the owner of Wollombi Wines, whose 2023 Semillon took Gold. Ben Dodwell is a triple Olympian who marched in both ceremonies and came home to Wollombi with a bronze medal from Sydney.

The afternoon will be part conversation, part guided tasting — five wines from Wollombi Wines, including the Gold Medal Semillon, a 2017 Dry Shiraz, a 2016 Sticky and the Overture Sparkling Rosé. But as with all SIP Uncovered events, the wine is the backdrop, not the headline. You can taste wine at any cellar door in the Hunter Valley. What you can't do everywhere is sit across from the people who made it — and in this case, the stories reach well beyond the vineyard.
